South Dakota duck hunting or goose hunting at Dakota River Ranch, located in the heart of the James River “Prairie Pothole Region”, is some of the finest in the country. We are also near the Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. In prime season, there can be up to 200,000 snow geese, 10,000 Canada geese, and 45,000 ducks with a wide variety of species that include pintails, mallards, widgeon, gadwalls, green-wing teal, blue-wing teal, wood ducks, shovelers, and redheads.
Our duck hunts are done over water and/or in harvested cornfields. Our best hunts are morning, but sometimes late afternoon cornfields can provide a lot of excitement from waterfowl looking for an early evening meal. Our guides know the spots and can get you there with one of our ARGOs. Serious waterfowl enthusiasts need an off-road vehicle that can get them through the most treacherous environments to their prized hunting spots and secluded duck blinds in our marsh land along the James River….waterfowl won’t stand a chance! For the more experienced hunter you may just want to bring your dog and favorite caller and have us provide the rest. Contact us about unguided waterfowl hunting.
